Rep. Greg Steube Says, ‘Gun Control’ Will be an Issue in the Midterm Elections

Greg Steube

“Guns are not the cause of evil, just like the vehicle used by the domestic terrorist in Waukesha, Wisconsin to mow down innocent people in a parade killing six, the vehicle used was not the cause of that evil…. the person driving it was.”  That’s how Representative Greg Steube [R-FL 17th District], a staunch defender of the Second Amendment, had recently put it on the floor of Congress.

In a new interview with Rebecca Weber, CEO of the Association of Mature American Citizens, on her AMAC podcast, Better for America, he pointed out that the Second Amendment is very clear, it says “we shall have the right to keep and bear arms. They didn’t define what arms are, its arms, plural … I think it’s important that the American people have the ability to defend themselves regardless of what type of firearm they choose to use. Restricting law-abiding citizens’ access to certain firearms is not going to prevent criminals from obtaining weapons. It is not going to prevent somebody who wants to commit harm or murder individuals.”

Steube explained that Democrats want to ban just about all guns. They say they are targeting what they call “assault rifles” but they would like to ban any gun “that takes a ten-round magazine,” which would include most handguns in America.

He went on to say that he believes the Constitutional right to bear arms will play a role in the upcoming midterm elections.  “The Democrats,” he said, “think it goes in favor of them when in fact, it doesn’t. The majority of Americans support law-abiding citizens’ ability to defend themselves. If you look at statistics and you look at the numbers, look at the municipalities in the jurisdictions that have put in place magazine bans and assault weapon bans and all these different laws. They have a higher crime rate … I think the majority of Americans know that we should be able to protect ourselves. We have a Second Amendment to the Constitution and [voters] aren’t buying into the rhetoric of the left.”

Nor are voters buying into the left’s attempt to put the blame for the dismal state of the economy on President Trump or Vladimir Putin’s ruthless invasion of Ukraine, Steube said.  “The American people are smarter than that.”  They know that the Democrats control Congress and the White House and it is the policies they put in place that are to blame for the rising cost of living.

I bet DemocRats would go for a law that allows only DemocRats to own guns!!!

  • It appears that the DumbocRats are avid about all those guns that are running loose and making decisions to kill people … making the gun holder fully innocent of any wrongdoing!!!!! Shame on those guns being so mean and using themselves to kill people. I guess the DemocRats will want to outlaw sugar next …. to prevent people from becoming too fat??? Anyway, its real sharp of the DemocRats to exonerate people from the forcing by a gun to make a kill. Maybe the DemocRats need to come up with some laws that send a gun to prison for killing someone?????

Denmark has some of the toughest gun control laws in the world, yet there was a mass shooting in a shopping complex. Guns are not the cause of evil. A nation that forgets God and thumbs it’s collective nose at Him will be given up to violence. The Ten Commandments get thrown out but LBGTQ+ and CRT get included. Any wonder why we have mass shootings?

The real story never gets told. In states with open/concealed carry very infrequent shootings. The criminals are not as stupid as we think…they pick areas where they don’t worry about being shot in return. Gun free means safe to shoot and kill without resistance.

Yes, Gun Control will be on the Ballot, any Candidate that campaigns on the Gun Control Platform, I will vote against and will give money and campaign help to the person who wishes to protect my Constitutional Rights. When this nation destroys the 2nd Amendment that will be the end of America, she will be no more,

“CONTROL,” or confiscation? Perhaps the focus is misplaced. Perhaps mental health is the primary issue about which concern should be directed. Perhaps opening up the prisons en masse is a foolish proposition. Perhaps discovering, detaining, and releasing without bail drug dealers on their own recognizance is a foolish practice, almost criminal negligence and duty dereliction. Perhaps certain people should do the jobs they were publicly hired to do.

Virtually every nation that was once free and now under a brutal dictatorship had to be disarmed first. What’s happening here is little different. 1st. weaken the “justice” system, (in case you haven’t noticed our “justice system” is a sick joke) erode morality, truth, erase the nation’s true founding, make all “public” schools teach carefully re-written “history”, harass and jail parents who dare to discipline their child, and never EVER allow prayer in school …as Hitler said: “Give me your children for 8 hours a day and they’re mine forever.”
Make sure the “media” is carefully controlled and spouting the designated narrative: “guns are violent” sadly so many don’t think twice about accepting that insanity, “MORE GUN CONTROL” Spend a few hours on the ATF website and research the THOUSANDS of gun laws already in place!
Last but not least: before you go to work (if you have a job) lay your rifle, pistol, revolver by the front door. Put a box of proper ammo next to it. According to the willing stupidity of the lefties your gun will load itself.. if he or she (my guns have names) is really industrious, it will search your computer for a nice target, and then it will march out the door (leave it a key so it can lock the door after itself) carefully screen humanity for the best target, kill said target (or targets if it’s really industrious) march home, unload it’s empty brass and lay itself down on the floor, to await your arrival home.
Mother Goosed “Fairy” Tales.

The second amendment was written by our founding fathers to protect the citizenry of this country from tyrannical government control! Our founding fathers escaped from a tyrannical government and founded this nation knowing full well that citizens without accession to arms is a country of oppressed citizens.
If you look back on history of all the nations that were ruled by despotic governments, the first thing they did was disarm their citizens!
If a citizen of the USA wants to own a single shot shotgun or a semiautomatic gun then they should be able to do so. It’s no different than a person wanting to own a toyota prius or a Lamborghini . Owning a firearm or auto is a privileged right that comes with great responsibility!
Remember this, “the second amendment keeps the other amendments free”. If you don’t need nor want a firearm , then don’t buy one. If you need or want a firearm then you are guaranteed the right to buy one or more guns!
Also, look at how many people die each year in auto accidents verses gun deaths. I don’t hear the government trying to ban autos !

I own guns, I like guns, I always have. I have a concealed weapons permit. I belong to a shooting range and a gun club. I usually buy a gun for a purpose. I don’t see a purpose for the AR-15, nor for a 50-round magazine. I rarely see a AR-15 at the range. I feel I have a legitimate, defendable reason for my guns. Please explain to me why we are falling on our swords to defend the AR-15 and 50 round magazines. And don’t give me the- once we give an inch, they’ll take everything BS-. Give me a legitimate reason why I should go out and spend $1200-$2000 on an AR-15 and a 50 round can that’s going to set in my closet because I can’t afford to shoot it.

The 2nd Amendment does not apply to semi-auto rifles, nor does it apply to bolt action rifles, pistols, or revolvers. The 2nd Amendment RESTRICTS GOVERNMENT. The technology of the firearm is irrelevant. The restrictions on Goverment remains the same regardless of the firearm. The 2nd Amendment was not written to grant permission for citizens to own and bear firearms. It forbids government interference in the right to keep and bear firearms PERIOD. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. It is your choice as to the type of gun you favor, but your opinion only applies to you and not the thousands of citizens who choose to own a modern semi-automatic musket/sporting rifle. If you choose not to spend $700+ to purchase an AR platform, then I would recommend that you don’t. But others do find a purpose in owning one. And choice is what makes a civil right worth fighting for.

And what is that purpose? Why are my NRA membership funds supporting a AR platform weapon? Just because I can buy it is not a purpose. What is the purpose of buying a AR platform weapon?

For one thing, an AR 15 is used for hunting. It is not an assault rifle. The M14/16 was designed off of it.
The naysayers show a huge hole they say is made by the bullet. In reality, it is quarter inch, 0.223
50-round magazine? I agree there, is no need generally for it. So, keep it in the house, unless U R going to use it at the firing range.

I bought both the 15 and the 10. I bought them for me and my son. So, do the math, that’s 4 of the AR platform. We both reload. We both enjoy going to the range and shooting, especially competition. I think that is plenty of reason to buy them. On top of that, they are a part of the collection I started. I have the Springfield M1A, M14 for most of us. I read that it is the worst rifle ever. Sorry, I disagree. It is the best shooting of everything I have. One of the guys I worked with during his time in the service was on the rifle team. They shot the M1A and he swore by it.
All in all, my purpose was enjoyment. My justification, because I can! If you do not care the AR’s, then don’t buy one.

Why does there have to be a purpose? They are a pleasure to shoot, could be used to hunt if need be, easy to maintain, and for some people, it’s a status symbol. It does not matter what the purpose is. The only thing that matters is that we are allowed the freedom of choice. The NRA does not support the “AR platform”. It supports our right to own whatever we choose.

Hey Smike , before the democrats ban on ar style rifles the first time amao , was pretty cheap , then after alle the riots ,burning and stealing pushed by the democtats just like they are doing now amao , jumped again , you do not have to load a 50 round mag to have fun with or hunt with a AR style rifle they are very fun to just go out and so some shooting with , some people even do the reloading thing which makes it much cheaper , but its the DEMORATS fault in the first place that you cant afford it , i have several 30 round clips for my ruger 10/22 does that make it a bad gun to own ,, thats what the NRA is fighting for ,,

Remember the Democrats original argument for legalization of abortion services? Safe, legal and rare they said. Well, that’s “devolved” into abortion on demand up to the moment of birth. Personally, I agree with you regarding semi-automatic high powered large capacity magazine rifles. There’s really no legitimate sporting reason to own such a weapon; however, the left will not be satisfied with the banning of AR-15 and similar style so-called “assault” rifles only. After achieving that objective they will incrementally move on to the next objective as they work toward the overall goal of disarming all law abiding American citizens.

Let’s apply your logic to another (supposed) right. Why do the vast majority of women need a “right to abort?” Some are past birthing age, some haven’t reached it yet, and the others don’t have to get pregnant (with a rape exception which includes incest) unless they want to. Do you think Schumer or Pelosi would buy that logic?

Don’t give you the “once we give an Inch they’ll take everything BS”?
THAT IS EXACTLY THE ISSUE… NOT BS.
Instead of one swift kill stroke, which wouldn’t fly with the majority, they try to kill by a thousand little slices! Every time a new anti gun law was passed, several more were introduced. To them it’s not enough to still have guns allowed in any fashion. All they’re doing is making an honest citizen a criminal, while the criminals are happy to face fewer consequences.
I’m really disappointed you, as a gun owner, would fall for their thinking.

What gives you the right to decide what gun someone else wants or gets. I’ve used my Ar15 for plinking, target shooting hunting jackrabbits and prairie dogs. I don’t tell you what kind of car to drive wether it’s to big or too small too fast or too flashy for my liking.
Get off your high horse and don’t speak from a position of ignorance. You sound like a Democrat politician, speaking without knowing what you’re talking about and not wanting to educate yourself. Shame on you, Read the 2nd amendment and history so you can educate yourself why the 2nd amendment was put in place!

Don’t laugh Hal. In Great Briain after they banned and confiscated guns, the criminal street gangs simply shifted over to using knives and battery acid. Yes, even steak or carving knives in many cases. The newspapers over there are still filled with stories of people being stabbed daily. Of course our local media here never reports this shift from guns being used to knives and acid. It would debunk the myth of the left that crime would simply cease to exist, if all the guns were taken away from law abidding citizens.

So what do you think was the predictable response from the political class in GB? You guessed it, a number of them suggested and even put forth legislation to ban the sale of knives on-line with a blade longer than a few inches. Even tracking and recording of the sale of steak knives was proposed. A sort of national knife registry. Thankfully that one didn’t get enacted as far as I know. Anyway NEVER, EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE STUPIDITY OF POLITICIANS ANYWHERE TO DO INSANE THINGS!

Hi Paul… Speaking of knives, something I happen to collect, take a look at CA’s laws concerning knives, the entire knife industry has to design their knives to meet the California standards, sound familiar?
Gun laws in both the UK & Australia are absolutely horrific…
The story of the old man & his wife awakened out of sleep at 3:00 am by an intruder always comes to mind anytime the subject of gun laws comes up in GB…
So the old man never turned his gun in for safe keeping as required by British law, he grabbed his shotgun out of the closet, shot & wounded the sob, not killing him. The police arrive & arrest the intruder, they also arrested the old man & his shotgun was confiscated, a short time later the crook was released from jail & he sued the old man for shooting him, causing bodily harm…
This is precisely why our 2nd amendment is sacred hollow ground & the SCOTUS verified this very recently in fact… Now the clueless one’s puppet masters are attempting to push their fated Red Flag Gun laws on all Americans, I don’t believe it will pass muster…
Bill… :~)

Hi Bill,

Yes, I looked at California’s knife laws. Reminds me of what exists in a lot of Europe these days. Remember after the Nazis confiscated the guns, the next thing they went after was knives and swords. Until the only thing the public had to defend themselves was axe handles and clubs. That same mindset is alive and well in today’s modern Socialists. An unarmed public is much easier to control and manipulate than a public that can fight back.

As the latest push for federal Red Flag laws, that was part of the most recent gun control legislation that Dopey just signed into law last week. It’s a done deal. So now any liberal loon can phone in an anonymous tip to the police, that they believe you are a potential threat to either yourself or the community and the police will stop by and confiscate your firearms after a Judge rubber stamps the order. Then you get the pleasure of spending several thousand in legal bills and months of your time to get them back.

Don;t thank for one min. the government can protect you . They can not protect them selves. they have security and high walls. And less not forget the medias play on this they only talk about shooting that fit there narrative. We never hear of how many times lives are saved by guns and law abiding citizens. And as far as assault weapons any thing can be and assault weapon even a politician.

LOL! That ship sailed a long time ago here. Far too many politicians here think the first thing they need to do to get “TV time” (photo ops) on the nightly news is to propose some half a$$, knee jerk legislation that either does nothing constructive (one example being the latest gun control legislation just signed into law) or actually makes things worse (also an example of the recent gun control legislation). Honestly, the professional political class has horrible judgement when it comes to deciding whether they should get involved in certain issues or not.

I recently worked with a guy who had been an SAS trooper in the UK. He told me he left the UK because of the severe restrictions. First the guns he collects and then the knives. We started this discussion one day when I asked if the SAS used the Fairbairn knife. He told me the UK had outlawed the knife and between the gun confiscation and banning knives of certain lengths etc., he relocated to the US. Of course Robert had that and others after he moved to the US.

The people who are most likely going to do harm to others with guns have always been able to get them on the black market. So where does that leave law abiding citizens if the right to bear arms is taken away from us? I applaud the Supreme Court! Nice job!
