Pro-Life Americans Have the Opportunity of a Generation

abortionfrom – The Daily Signal – by Melanie Israel

The American people have returned a pro-life majority to Congress and have elected a president committed to rolling back the Obama administration’s radical abortion policies and to appointing pro-life justices to the Supreme Court. This presents an incredible opportunity for defending innocent human life. Now is the time to act.

Executive Action

President-elect Donald Trump should act to defend life and conscience immediately after he takes the oath of office, and should:

  • Reinstate the Mexico City Policy to ensure that federally funded nongovernmental organizations do not perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in foreign nations.
  • Enforce the Weldon Amendment to stop states from unlawfully discriminating against health care entities that refuse to pay for or cover abortions.
  • Reject a proposed parting gift to Planned Parenthood through new Title X regulations designed to lock in the abortion giant’s cut of federal funds.
  • Nominate a Supreme Court justice that will respect the Constitution and the right to life.
  • Repeal the Department of Health and Human Services mandate requiring insurance coverage of certain contraceptives and abortifacients. Although the Supreme Court has protected the consciences of closely held businesses and religious institutions, consciences of individual consumers and employees are still vulnerable absent full repeal.
  • Reinstitute Bush administration conscience protections for health care providers.
  • Reaffirm states’ freedom to exclude abortion providers from state Medicaid programs.

Congressional Action

With a pro-life majority in both the House and the Senate, pursuing a life-affirming agenda is a must. Congress should:

  • Pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The United States is one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortion past 20 weeks (5 months), at which point the baby is capable of feeling excruciating pain during an abortion procedure.
  • Pass the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. Instead of relying on a patchwork of policy riders attached to appropriation bills each year, Congress should permanently end taxpayer funding for abortion once and for all.
  • Defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers have disqualified themselves from federal funding due to their callous disregard for human life. The money should be redirected to comprehensive health centers not entangled with abortion.
  • Pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The disturbing case of Kermit Gosnellhas shown there must be criminal consequences for abortionists who violate the law and refuse to provide medical care to infants born alive after abortions.
  • Pass the Conscience Protection Act, which ensures that individuals get their day in court when their rights to conscience concerning abortion are violated by the government.
  • End funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). President Barack Obama sent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to the UNFPA despite evidence of its involvement in China’s coercive two-child policy. This funding should end.
  • Repeal Obamacare. Under Obamacare, tax subsidies are available for health plans that include coverage of elective abortion, and the HHS mandate requires coverage of certain abortion-inducing drugs and devices. Both anti-life policies would disappear with Obamacare’s repeal.

Promoting a Culture of Life

The success of pro-life candidates up and down the ballot is a victory for the pro-life movement. But more importantly, it is a victory for the most vulnerable and innocent among us. Since Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton effectively legalized abortion on demand, more than 56 million children have been denied the opportunity to live.

For over 40 years, the pro-life community has worked to counter the devastating impact abortion has had on mothers and their unborn babies, witnessing to the fundamental truth that from the moment of conception, a distinct human being with inherent worth and dignity has a right to life.

Congress and Trump have an opportunity to codify important policy riders, stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to organizations that perform or promote abortion, end the inhuman practice of late-term abortions on babies who are viable or capable of feeling pain, appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court, and much more.

They should take action with confidence, knowing that Americans have spoken for life at the ballot box.

The more science advances
The closer they get to realizing that the babies life begins at conception
Lot of people out there who lived full lives after starting out as being very premature
Maybe something to consider

Let me start by saying that I am not pro Abortion. That sad, I find many who are anti abortion have not given any thought to what they actually want to promote. What are the alternatives? Have any of you seen the stats on adoption or children raised by the “Government”? Which is worse, a pregnancy that is ended in the first trimester or a child who goes through life as a ward of the state and has no feeling of worth. What about the Constitution. So many Anti Abortion advocates want to have a Federal law that bans all or some forms of ending pregnancy. The ninth and tenth amendments forbid this kind of law. Roe Vs Wade needs to be repealed for the same reason. What about the fact that there are always two people involved? Why does the unborn baby have precedent over an already living person? It is the mothers body, when doe she loose the right to her body? I grant you that other than trauma , there is almost no instance that an unborn baby presents a risk to a mother, however there are a few cases. When has government EVER done any- thing that didn’t screw up some thing else. The answer is NEVER. The writers of the constitution knew this from experience and there vast knowledge of history. They studied the Romans , the Greeks and other “great” empires. WE have many other things to worry about besides abortions. Repeal Roe v Wade to start. Restore the constitution as it was intended. Reinterpret the welfare clause the way it was intended. Reinterpret the interstate commerce clause the way it was intended. For that matter abolish the federal Government and create the ultimate tenth amendment. Fifty smaller Governments. Keep in mind that God does not expect YOU to police mankind for him. YOU are not your brothers (or your sisters) keeper.

If we were a moral people, this issue would not be a problem! Society promotes sex all the time and never the consequences! The immaturity and selfishness of society is what feeds the abortion industry; have sex, abort any fetus and move on in life! Yes God does not expect us to police mankind for him, but he does expect us to live moral lives and those who don’t – well who gives a damn about babies right David? There are lots of folks who would love to adopt a baby but there aren’t enough of them so they go overseas. And what of those aborted children, how many of them might have become doctors curing diseases or soliders fighting for freedom or any number of folks caring for families? A society that doesn’t value life except themselves is a society that won’t be around long! You can see the rise of violence all over our country – a consequence of a immature, selfish society that doesn’t value life! And don’t tell me I’m being self-righteous because I’ve been there. Had an abortion in college and no one was there to help me, counsel me, grive with me! It wasn’t until 30 years later that I found peace and forgiveness with God!!! There are consequences to unfettered sex and abortion – but no one wants to talk about them since it would dampen all the hedonism society craves!

You’re so right Carol. It’s all about morality. Our country has gotten so far of track that we are no longer a Christian nation. What kind of nation takes God out of schools and public buildings, kills babies, perform same-sex marriage, etc. etc. The media is so sexually alluring it’s disgraceful. Paying people on welfare to have babies is unconscionable. Hopefully, with a republican controlled government we can put God back into the center of our being again.

An unborn child is a part of the mother’s body? If this were so, the unborn child would have the chromosomes as the mother–but in real life the unborn child has a mixture from both parents. From the moment of conception, the unborn child is a separate person, and not a part of his/her mother’s body.

David Shipp I agree with a lot you said. (BTW thought your misspelling of said to sad) was oddly telling. I have no problem with reversals you mentioned per se but for abortion to be used as birth control is abhorrent to me and at PP this is what they do. I am old Christian grandma…..never will believe we are not to do God’s work and teachings in our everyday lives. I also am sick of federal overreach into every facet of our lives. States can do much better governing themselves as they know what the pros and cons are. Immigration is adding to this top heavy government we have and cannot sustain because we have millions who are no longer counted in Obama’s figures because they no longer receive benefits but still do not have jobs or are underemployed. Yet we hand out money, food, housing, etc. to any person who comes. This is disgraceful to me who worked all my life, paid into SS, Medicare, taxes, etc. only to now to watch people from other countries spending my money in the lines at grocery; believe me they have high end products, meats, etc. stacked in buggies, with no English spoken, just stick out those cards while their children run, scream, tear up magazines, grab candy etc. This makes me think abortion would have been acceptable on their parents!! Then I have to ask forgiveness for my evil thoughts. But you must agree it is a horrible, maybe irretrievable mess.

Women and men should certainly know that there are ways to avoid pregnancy. If you can’t take a daily pill or wear a condom, then keep your legs crossed and your manlyhood inside your pants.

you do not need planned parenthood clinics when you have insurance you have a doctor and hospitals you can go to and yet taxpayer money is what pays for them which is wrong and it tells me something else is going on in the clinics.
